GCSG RULES AND PROPER ETIQUETTE

CAPTAIN DUTIES:

a)   Book weekly games for team.
b)   Inform Team of Booking place and time.
c)   During regular play keep score and enter the results into the eHandicap Manager program.
e)   At Tournaments; Sign, Date and Total the Scorecard and give the results to the Statistician – enter results into the eHandicap Program.
f)    Responsible for finding Spares if Team is short of players.
      NOTE: Spares are to be requested at spares@mtsmail.ca
g)  Captains will make all final rule decisions.
h) In the event of a dispute regarding any rule, the Captain will refer it to the executive for a final decision. 
i)    Any individual complaints should be taken up with the Captain, they should NOT be discussed with other members.
j)    Remind Team Members of any up-coming events and collect any fees if required.

REGULAR RULES OF GOLF:

1) R.C.G.A. rules are always in effect except for the following.
2) GWSG exceptions to the rules are as follows:
a) Bush, unplayable rough, dangerous areas, and out of bounds are to be treated as lateral hazards. If a ball is hit into a lateral hazard the player is allowed 3 minutes to find the original ball and play it as it lies. If the ball is not found, the player must drop a ball within 2 club lengths of the point of entry to the hazard and not nearer the hole – 1 stroke penalty.
b) If a drive enters a lateral hazard, the player may opt to hit a new drive – 3rd shot off the tee (stroke & distance). New ball in play.

REMINDERS:
a)  All swings with the intention of striking the ball are strokes, even when the player misses the ball.
b) A ball in casual water may be lifted and dropped in a playable area not closer to the hole – no penalty.
c) All balls must be played as they lie unless exceptions are posted by the club.
d) From tee to green, a ball cannot be moved or cleaned unless the Lift, Clean and Play Rule has been declared due to inclement weather or course conditions.  A ball may be lifted and cleaned once marked on the putting surface.
e) Gimmies – must be within the length of a Putter’s Grip (max 12”).
NOTE:  Gimmies are NOT allowed at tournaments.
f) Pin may be left in or removed during putting at players discretion.
g) Sand Shots – club cannot touch the surface of the sand until shot is made:
–  If a ball lands in unraked sand, it may be lifted and placed in a playable spot in the bunker as directed by the Captain – no penalty.
h) 14 Hole Rule – a player must complete 14 holes to be counted as a game:
– If a player or a team quits after 14 holes, the remaining 4 holes must be marked as par plus 2 for each player.
– Bathroom breaks are also marked as par plus 2 for each hole missed.
i) Maximum score for any hole is par plus 4.
j) Red Tees – Red tees may be used by ANY player.
–  For regular play, the player must declare their intention to use the red tees prior to the beginning of play.
–  For tournaments, the player must advise the Tournament Chairman when signing up.
–  Red tees CANNOT be used for Club Championship play.
–  If a member is playing the White Tees but has to play from  the Red Tee for one hole due to distance of carry over a hazard, the member must take a one stroke penalty.
k) No mulligans are allowed
l) No second or practice balls are allowed.

ETIQUETTE OF GOLF:

The highest degree of Sportsmanship is expected of every player.  An understanding of and a commitment to the following points are part of your responsibility as a player in this Organization.  Violators are subject to club discipline.

a) Once you have joined the Club, honour your commitment to play as scheduled.
b) Players are expected to be in full control of their emotions.
c) From the beginning of each match, play must be continuous and follow the rules of play as set out by the R.C.G.A or as modified above.
d) Be ready to play when it is your turn – on the tee, fairway or green.
e) In order to maintain pace of play, members should play “ready golf” at all times. Ready golf is defined as “each golfer within a group hitting when ready”, rather than strictly adhering to the principle that the farthest from the hole plays first.
f) Do not loiter on the greens, enter scores at the next tee.
g) On the green do not stand or walk on another players ball line.
h) When another player is addressing his ball, please maintain silence.
i) All divots must be replaced.
j) Fishing or hunting for balls that do not belong to your foursome is not allowed during play.
k) Utmost courtesy must be shown to course personnel at all times.
